Membership Information
Members of Moms League of Aiken are encouraged to plan and host events for other members and their children to provide fun, safe, social activities for all. Hosts are free to plan whatever they feel most comfortable with, whether in their home or at a neutral location such as an area playground. Examples of activities are playgroups, crafts or baking, visiting a local attraction, stroller walks, etc. Activities geared towards moms and/or families are also welcome, provided that children are allowed to attend. Events do not need to be complicated or formal, nor do hosts have to spend money to create an activity. The goal is for social time together and anything else, like warm banana bread and coffee, is considered a bonus. Listed below are important items that our organization expects from a host.
Even though most homes with children are child proofed, some things could be overlooked once your child starts getting older and more independent. Make sure to secure all chemicals, poisons, and other dangerous material from children’s reach. Remove all hazards and valuables such as glass tables, your grandmother’s figurine, etc. While we ask that hosts provide a safe environment for play, mothers in attendance are ultimately responsible for the safety of the children she brings to any activity.
If you cannot host your activity, whether it is several weeks in advance or at the last minute, consider canceling an activity only as a last resort. Ideas for alternative plans may include:
- Trading dates with another host
- Find another member interested in hosting
- Move the event to a neutral location such as an area park
Please update the scheduled event once changes are made. If changes are being made at the last minute, it may be necessary to call all RSVPs since many may not have the chance to check e-mail or Facebook before an event. If you need an updated directory of our members, please contact any of the board members.
In a case where you cannot follow the procedures for making hosting changes and notifying attendees (such as a family emergency that calls you away), call the playgroup coordinator or a board member to let them know you cannot host and are unable to make alternative plans.
This code establishes guidelines for all the Moms League functions and interactions with Moms League members. It gives Moms League the guidelines needed to create harmonious playgroups and/or activities. It also provides the Executive Board with necessary guidelines and a plan of action if violations do occur. The final decision will rest with the Executive Board.
Children’s Conduct
Every child is in a different stage of development and all children will exhibit undesirable behavior at one time or another. We are here to offer support. If your child cannot get their behavior under control, remove them from the immediate area.
Aggressive Behavior
This includes hair pulling, biting, kicking, wrestling, spitting etc.: If any of these behaviors occur, you must speak to your child. If a 2nd incident occurs, you must remove your child from that area. If after thirty minutes the behavior doesn’t improve, you must remove yourself and your child from the playgroup/activity entirely for the rest day. If the Executive Board feels this is a danger to the rest of the club, they can make the decision to ask that you refrain from activities for 30 days.
Sickness
If you or your children show symptoms of a cold, fever, diarrhea, lice, etc. do not attend group activities. Everyone must be symptom free for 48 hours before attending a playgroup or activity. If you may have been in contact with anyone with a communicable disease (chicken pox, measles, Covid, etc.) you MUST inform a board member immediately for the safety of everyone.
